Following our recent compliance inspection at Whitehaven, Leek Road, Longston (ST9 9QF), we can confirm that the existing Marsh Ensign 12 sewage treatment plant is suitably sized for the property and current usage. However, the system is currently non-compliant due to two key issues identified during the visit. The first issue is dealt with separately in the quote concerning the power supply to the compressor. The second issue concerns surface water is entering the foul system via a downpipe connected near the kitchen area, which is not permitted under the General Binding Rules. Further remedial action includes diverting the existing downpipe away from the foul drainage system and reconnecting it to the guttering on the conservatory.

Description:
Following our recent compliance inspection of the sewage treatment plant serving Whitehaven, Leek Road, Longston, ST9 9QF and The Old Post Office (known as Sutherland House, Sutherland Road, Longsdon ST9 9QD), we can confirm that the existing Marsh Ensign 12 sewage treatment plant is suitably sized for the properties and current usage. However, the system is currently non-compliant because there is no power supply to the compressor, meaning the unit is not carrying out the required biological treatment process and is effectively operating as a septic tank. To bring the system into full compliance, remedial works are required which include installing a suitable electrical supply to the treatment plant, fitting a rotary isolator, and connecting and commissioning the compressor to ensure proper operation. This involves a cable run of approximately 80 metres to the garage of Whitehaven. In addition, works will be required to supply and install associated components such as airline pipework, fittings, and potentially a replacement compressor (subject to testing the existing unit), along with a suitable housing. It is also recommended that the system is desludged due to the lack of treatment to date, and a check should be carried out to confirm whether a vent stack is present, with installation quoted if required. Once these works have been completed, the sewage treatment system will be fully operational and compliant with the General Binding Rules 2023, with no further issues identified at the time of the inspection.
